What Status for Environmentalists?

Describes The Society for the Environment and the value of being a Chartered Environmentalist.

People in a conference

Everyone working or wanting to work as an environmental professional wants and needs to have their professional status widely recognised. This may be for getting job interviews and promotion, obtaining contracts and funding, recognising continuing professional development, networking or just personal satisfaction.

Environmental professionals can now be recognised as Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv). This new chartered professional status, similar to that of engineers or surveyors, has been developed by the Society for the Environment.

SocEnv is a new umbrella body for environmental professional bodies and learned societies. It aims to lead on the development and regulation of environmental practitioners and to be a respected voice in environmental affairs and sustainable development. It was granted a Royal Charter in 2004, which enables members of its Constituent Bodies to have the status of Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv). This recognises their professionalism in sustainable environmental management and development.
